Dear Festival Family,
We are embroiled in a very public struggle about the Festival’s intention to create self-defined space for WBW. Many of you have asked how you can help. Here is what you can do:
Take care in your conversation on the internet, on Facebook pages, in emails and meetings. I believe we must try our best, as a community, to participate in the energetic antidote to the aggressive rhetoric. Regardless of how heated the discussions may sometimes get, please do your best to honor and support all women and nurture our common ground, in all possible moments, in respectful ways.
Conflict always has unexpected results: sometimes it causes injury, sometimes it brings liberation and often it fuels an unexpected synthesis of seemingly incongruous experiences. Conflict always moves us forward, in our fragility, to whatever lies ahead of us. In that spirit, I ask you to recognize the power of your support for Festival and to stand by her in 2013. If you love the Festival, this is the year to show it. This is the year to come to Michigan. This is the year to bring your friends, your neighbors, and all the folks who have been saying they have wanted to come for years. If you love the Land and want to support the continuation of this vital and amazing community, please do what you can to sustain her and join us this year. [...]

Dear Festival Family,

“Feminist” Facebook page with 25,000 likes posts homophobic article discussing Lesbian sexuality and how Lesbians need to learn to appreciate penis so Lesbians and “people with penises” can have “fun” together.
The punch line? The article was posted by a 23-year old woman.
Like, I have been a Lesbian longer than you’ve been alive.
If you think Lesbian Sexuality involves penis, you are doing it wrong.
So, it’s bad enough that, on a theoretical level, a feminist woman cannot follow an analysis about compulsory heterosexuality, etc.
There’s the additional HAVE YOU NO SHAME factor of yet another woman completely failing to consider how this issue of Trans Inclusion IMPACTS LESBIANS.

This is Joelle Ruby Ryan.
He’s posted student work on Facebook and invited others to mock it.
He’s also wished death on Janice Raymond.
He teaches women’s studies, yet defends a man who calls women “fish.”
I made up a new word today. It’s called transpocrisy.
Also, Joe, if you let your dog poop on a person’s lawn without picking it up, you deserve to be sprayed with a hose.

Interesting Discussions going on here about women’s space in connection with a now-ended event called Age Diversity and Gender Fluidity: A forum sponsored by the San Francisco Dyke March.
Me being a hugely “transphobic” evil person, local dykes who live in fear of being ostracized by Gender Queers for having “an unpopular opinion” asked me to comment on the event page, and some Women (and Gay Men) cried “evils” when I said controversial things like “Trans women are men.” [...]

Alan Leo Bounville is walking across the country for the gays and the trans folks.
That’s nice. Recently, I enjoyed an exchange with him on Facebook where he minimizes women’s safety concerns and disregards the fact that Gender Identity legislation enshrines sex stereotypes into law. What a “hero.”

If you believe that no woman should have to face the Male Gaze while engaged in bodily functions, please share her photo and donate a Facebook status message and a tweet on Twitter here.
“1 in 3 women worldwide risk shame, disease, harassment and even attack because they have nowhere safe to go to the toilet. Sanitation would make 1.25 billion women’s lives safer and healthier.”

Facebook has removed a photograph of Object! Women Not Sex Objects‘ Spot the Difference birthday card to News International that demonstrated how male-dominated media portrays men and women differently, with men seen as fully human and women relegated to the role of sex object for male pleasure.
In Facebook’s world, Political Speech critiquing Pornography and Exploitation of Women is forbidden.
But ACTUAL PORN is A-OK.
More Facebook Misogyny here.

Facebook is a pit of misogyny.
But, there are a number of pages that document Facebook misogyny, including:
