Wither Goes Radical Feminism?
By Kathleen Barry

Congratulations to all of you who have acted with so much courage to face down the anti-feminist trans, the Mens Rights Activists, (MRAs) and men’s war against women in general. Your feminist determination stands powerfully against their threats, their lies, their stupidity, their meanness and hatred of women and the conference is going forward.

I have followed closely all that has been posted on the struggle to make this conference happen, and as the conference approaches, I find myself very concerned about the potential effects of the anti-feminist attacks. Bottom line, feminism is most vulnerable to men’s Divide and Conquer strategies simply because they so often go unrecognized for what they are. Recently on the internet there have been more than enough examples of how feminist anger at our enemies gets turned against each other.

Divide and Conquer – the favored strategy of oppressors everywhere. Anti-feminist trans and woman hating MRAs, have in mind nothing short of destroying radical feminism ultimately by turning women against each other. How do I know that? Anti-feminist men are not very inventive – they repeat and repeat and repeat the same strategies. They wear down our energy, fray our nerves and try to diminish our hope. As seen from their aggression both last year and this in London, they will not relent. They expect that feminists will turn on each other. [...]

Believe What Men Tell Each Other

Where Men gather, Women are exploited.

And where there are Women to be exploited, there are Men who have turned to the Internet to “rate” their experiences of raping exploiting Women.

Please understand this – there are websites DEVOTED to giving Men a forum to compare their experiences of Raping Women.

You know, so Men can tell other Men how to “get value for money.”

Have you ever looked at these mongering websites? In the UK, you have PunterNet, in the US, you have the innocuously-titled USA Sex Guide.

Women, you should Believe What Men Tell Each Other.

The Invisible Men: Let’s Talk About His Choices is a 31-day project for May. Each day, the blog will feature an image of a mask with a price tag, overlayed with text extracted from PunterNet reviews. The price tag shows what he paid in that particular transaction. Extracts will cover everything from rape/racism/trafficking/exploitation of poverty/age/pimping etc.

Maybe you’re one of those people who think “Sex Work” is Empowering. You should read what punters actually think and do, and consider the choices of Men.

Follow the Project on Twitter at @invisiblechoice, and the Tumblr blog here.

Consider the choices of Men and what they tell each other.

THE DANGEROUS TALE OF THE MRES AND THEIR ALLIES

Cathy Brennan:

* MRE = Male rights extremists.

This post is intended to shed light on all that has happened, so far, to radfem2013. What has happened should be important to those on the radical left and all feminists everywhere – but thanks to alliances made between trans/queers with MRE‘s, it’s very difficult for us to be heard in the public domain without the distortions flooding our truths and drowning them out.

There is a reason why, whenever I go to refer to anti-RF blog posts, the sticky “L” on my keyboard leads me to write “bog”. That is far more apt. Bogs which are full of misleading lies, distortions, inaccurate interpretations of what radical feminism, as a movement, is, including a continual misapplication of the law in order to attempt to censor our beliefs. Bogs which pull you down more and more into the mud of obfuscation and red herrings so…

Statement from Rad Fem 2013

April 20, 2013

STATEMENT NOW POSTED ON THE RADFEM2013 WEBSITE BY THE ORGANISERS.

Unsurprisingly, and for the second year in a row, men’s rights activists have bullied venue staff hosting Radfem 2013, into submitting to their terror tactics. Despite the fact that the organisers of this year’s Rad Fem 2013 were completely transparent about our intentions for the conference and the potential consequences of the London Irish Centre’s acceptance of our booking (i.e. harassment from men who don’t like us), the venue has been bullied by a bunch of men’s rights activists and the venue are considering cancelling our booking. Men’s rights advocates have harassed feminists online, bullied venue staff at the London Irish Centre (this year’s host of Radfem 2013), including putting the names of staff on websites and blogs. Staff were also shaken up by the theft of a laptop and mobile phone from staff. This is now under criminal investigation and we have no idea who was responsible, but what we do know is that it is us who are being punished.

The reality is that the men’s rights activists have behaved unacceptably in their harassment of staff at the venue, as they have to feminists organising the conference. The London Irish Centre should be standing strong with the women of the world who suffer male violence, silencing, bullying, threats, spreading hysterical malicious lies and perpetrating harassment on a daily basis because we are standing up and saying, “no.” Organisers of Radfem 2013 have gone out of our way to help the centre and its staff with criminal investigations. Letter to the Community

Letter to the Community

On March 28, an activist named Red Durkin posted a petition on Change.org asking artists and attendees to boycott the Michigan Womyn’s Music Festival until organizers fully and openly welcome all self-identified women.  This petition has intensified a long-running debate about and within the Festival, a debate that has often included intense misrepresentations about the political heart of this gathering.  There is no doubt that complex political debate is healthy and necessary within our communities; however, a boycott, within this context, fails to advance resolution and only seeks to exact damage.  As the Festival’s producer for her full 38 years, I write today to clarify the festival’s herstory, intention and my desire for understanding within our communities, as well as to clarify where I stand on these issues. Enjoy this audio from Lindsay Spilman, a heterosexual woman who suffers from gender identity disorder (by her own statements) and who sexually harasses women on social media.

Having gender identity disorder does not give you the right to sexually harass women.

This is your brain on gender identity disorder, according to Lindsay Spilman.

A female in a relationship with a male is in a heterosexual relationship.

Your gender identity disorder doesn’t give you license to sexually harass women. Does it?

Just stop talking.

Seriously.

UPDATE: Lindsey Spillman returns, claiming that women who have been raped are bigots and misogynists for not prosecuting their rapists.

Radfem 2013 Conference Program Online

March 19, 2013

RF2013 Programme is available!

Register here.

From the Conference Website.

The aim of this conference is to re-build a radical feminist movement and support the re-emerging interest in radical feminism among women.

We will:

■ Raise awareness and increase understanding about radical feminism
■ Increase networks and connections between Radical feminists
■ Improve activist skills and knowledge among attendees

We are committed to building a strong and vibrant women’s liberation movement and a community of women of all ages and from diverse backgrounds. It is important that we meet as often as we can so that we can build solid relationships and plan for strategies to build a free and safe future for all of our sisters in the female class. We have hope that we can make positive changes for women through the development of a committed movement of women all over the world.

WHAT IS RADICAL FEMINISM?

Radical feminism goes to the heart of female oppression by naming male domination and violence as being responsible for women’s subordination.

OPPOSITION TO GENDER ROLES

Radical feminists believe gender roles are harmful to women. We seek freedom from “femininity” and “masculinity”. Gender only exists for the benefit of men, as a class, at the expense of women, as a class.

THE FOCUS OF RADICAL FEMINISM

Radical feminism names, and brings attention to, all forms of male domination, violence and control, including:

■ Women’s exploitation, degradation and torture within prostitution and pornography,
■ Sexual violence towards women and the way this is culturally normalised,
■ Compulsory heterosexuality as an institution which oppresses women
■ Ways in which women are controlled and harmed by gender roles

WHO IS THIS CONFERENCE FOR?

We welcome radical feminists and those women who want to learn more about radical feminism. It is women-only because we believe that we need to organise autonomously in order to fight for our freedom from patriarchy. We aim to make the conference a safe space for female victims/survivors to talk about multiple experiences of male violence and oppression. We need women-only (female) spaces to do that. We will actively promote radical feminism and radical feminists.

We are revolutionaries, fighting for social change, and overthrowing current patriarchal systems. We want a radical alternative to both right wing, biological determinist and post modern versions of “genderism”. In other words, we oppose the promotion of gender roles as “natural”, inevitable, desirable, innate, or exaggerated performances of “femininity” and “masculinity”. We believe that gender is a destructive hierarchy, which harms women and needs to be abolished. We also oppose the the multi-billion pound sex industry. We disagree with “identity politics” which is counter to our goal of abolishing gender and male domination. The language of identity politics re-enforces patriarchy, even though sometimes people use the language of revolution to push these male centred ideologies. This conference will explore radical feminist critiques of all these oppressive aspects of patriarchy and promote alternative ways forward.

COMMITMENT TO HUMAN RIGHTS

We support the human rights of all people to live free from violence or verbal abuse. We support the existence of laws to ensure those rights are protected. We support the rights of all groups who are disadvantaged within society to autonomously organise. Although we support rights and freedoms for all, this conference will be focused on the liberation of all females.

Real Talk

“To have your cock cut off and then plead special privileges as women – above natural-born women, who don’t know the meaning of suffering, apparently – is a bit like the old definition of chutzpah: the boy who killed his parents and then asked the jury for clemency on the grounds he was an orphan.”

AMEN.
